Meet my nephew!

Back in March my oldest sister Camille gave birth to my third(!) nephew Ryan Joseph. While I've only seen him in pictures and heard his little gurgles and coos via skype, everything indicates he's pretty darn cute!

One of my presents for my sister and brother-in-law was to design and print Ryan's birth announcements. Camille was making a really cute baby quilt and wanted the announcement to reflect a similar theme and color scheme.

Truth be told, the design didn't come together very easily. I drew a lot of spaceships, planets, and stars, experimented with clip art and space-themed wingdings, but nothing gelled for me or for Camille. I think I was trying too hard not to copy the fabric designs.

Eventually with additional color direction from Camille and permission from myself to create a more "fabric-like" design, I came up with the final design. I drew the spaceships based on  vintage toys and created the stars and plants in Photoshop.

Once I got the thumbs up on the final design, I printed blue, white, and orange ink layers on French Paper's Berrylicious 100 lb cover stock. The announcements looked great once finished and were a special way to celebrate the Ryan's birth even while 600 miles away!

Too cute!
